1926-D 5C MS66 PCGS. 1926-D Nickels do not come this nice, do they? This coin has to be the exception that proves the rule, as it is strongly struck, highly and vibrantly lustrous, and eye-catchingly toned. The centers of this coin are bathed in a pleasing lavender tone before graduating to iridescent bands of peripheral rainbow color seemingly representing the entire spectrum. Lange describes the majority of coins of this date as, "So poorly struck as to render them undesirable to collectors," yet this piece boasts full horn detail and only the slightest trace of softness in the highest points. Under magnification, it is possible to find a few surface marks that might determine the grade, yet the overwhelming eye appeal this coin presents is such that one might scarcely care. The major grading services have combined to certify one piece as Superb, by PCGS. We have not seen the coin, but are hard-pressed to imagine that it would look better in a collection than the current coin. Population: 20 in 66, 1 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
