1926-D<5C> MS65 PCGS. David Lange, in his The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, writes of the 1926-D issue: "Although not particularly scarce in most grades, the majority are so poorly struck as to render them undesirable to collectors. ... Many Mint State coins lack a three-dimensional horn, this being either quite flat or lacking altogether." Not so with the present example. With the exception of softness in the lowest part of the outermost feather and on the hair adjacent to the bison's forehead, the design features display a considerably better-than-average strike, including excellent delineation on the date, braid, mintmark, horn, tail, and all of the peripheral lettering. Lustrous surfaces exhibit a thin veneer of champagne color, and are devoid of mentionable contact marks. A couple of tiny, inoffensive flecks on each side are mentioned for accuracy.
