1926-D $20 MS61 PCGS. Though it does not appear on many collectors' radars as a particularly elusive issue, the 1926-D was among the later dates with populations decimated by the gold recall of 1933, with fewer than one-tenth of 1% of the original production run of 481,000 pieces certified. This attractive example has strong detail overall, though it displays this issue's typical weakness on the dome of the Capitol building on the obverse. Strong luster and dappled straw-gold and orange coloration gives this piece an unusual, captivating appearance. While scattered light to moderate abrasions affect both the fields and the devices, the overall eye appeal is more suggestive of an MS62 than of the grade assigned. An interesting and appealing example of this often-overlooked later issue. Housed in an old green label holder.

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
