1926 A Typical Blackfoot By Edward Curtis
Offered in this lot is a printing of the 1926 photograph "A Typical Blackfoot" by Edward Curtis. This beautiful image depicts a Blackfoot Warrior wrapped in a trade blanket and holding a beaded rifle scabbard. The Blackfoot tribe was the dominate tribe in Montana. Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952), between 1896 and 1930, photographed over 80 Indian tribes in North America and Alaska. Curtis published "The North American Indian", a series of 20 volumes documenting disappearing Indian lifestyles and customs. In 1930, the original copper photogravure plates become the property of Curtis' creditors, the printing companies and publishers he used—that is when many of these prints were made and sold. By 1981, "The Curtis Collection" owned the entire collection. This print is matted and professionally framed with a wood frame. The art has "A Typical Blackfoot" written in the lower left boarder and "From Copyright Photograph 1926 By E.S. Curtis" in the center lower boarder. Around the art is the indent made on the paper by the plate. The art shown measures 9" x 7" and the frame measures 19" x 15". This item is in good condition and shows no obvious signs of damage.
