1926 50C Sesquicentennial MS66 NGC. The shallow relief of the Sesquicentennial half led to unsatisfactory striking and thus to the issue's reputation as one of the least aesthetically pleasing silver commemoratives. Q. David Bowers (1991) offered the following candid advice: "This low-relief coin ... is best forgotten if you are a connoisseur; but, as you need one for your set, your best bet is to wince and settle for an average coin ... "
One hardly has to settle, however, as the Premium Gem offered here is anything but average. Rich golden-toning covers most of each side, while elements of brilliance visit the margins. The devices are better-defined than usual, and while a touch of granularity is noted on Washington's cheek (as always), the surfaces are practically devoid of post-striking flaws. A piece in MS66 is the best quality one can hope to acquire, as neither NGC nor PCGS has certified a Superb Gem example (10/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
