1926 50C Sesquicentennial MS66 NGC. This is far and aw
1926 50C Sesquicentennial MS66 NGC. This is far and away the nicest Sesquicentennial half dollar that the present cataloger has ever seen. Because of its initial low-relief design and the subsequent surface insults that plague so many coins of this issue, seldom are coins encountered in MS64 or finer grades. The present piece is a memorable exception, however, as the focal points--the accolated busts of Calvin Coolidge and George Washington on the obverse, and the highpoints of the Liberty Bell on the reverse--show only the slightest abrasions that are undistracting. But this coin's strong suit is its brilliant luster, which breaks forth unimpeded from beneath the light, lovely toning in shades of amber-gold, ice-blue, and yellow. It is seldom that a silver coin with so much lovely toning manages to also show strong cartwheel luster, but when one encounters such a rare combination, the results are extraordinary, as here. This coin is one of seven Premium Gems so graded at PCGS, with none finer (3/07). A not-too-lengthy perusal of the PCGS online Population Report will quickly confirm that this is by far the rarest classic silver commemorative coin in MS66 grade. While most silver commemoratives show PCGS-certified populations in the dozens to several hundreds, only the 1922 Grant with Star and the Missouri issues show comparably rare populations--and even they show populations in the range of two to three dozen coins each in MS66. A remarkable opportunity for commemorative specialists.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
