1926 25C MS68 NGC. Stunning quality and equally stunning toning on the obverse. Examining this coin under a light sets into motion a kaleidoscope or iridescent colors. Dancing russet and coppery-gold near the rims is seen interwoven with emerald and apple-green through the fields, in the nooks and crannies of the devices and over the textured luster. On the reverse, the toning is far less spectacular, with most of the coin bright and untoned, with the right side covered with specks of dark brown and gold tones, particularly on the right edge. The other factor that simply cannot be overlooked is the quality of this coin. It is simply one of the very finest of this date to survive, as the surfaces are undisturbed and as close to perfection as any seen. NGC has graded a total of two coins this high, with none seen finer of this date. PCGS has not graded any examples of this date higher than MS67. Certainly a coin that could claim to be the finest known, as the colorful toning would undoubtedly be unmatched by the otherwise technically and conditionally equal MS68 graded by NGC. This particular coin is identifiable by a tiny tick on the middle of the wing on the fourth feather row up above the thigh of the eagle. The strike is fairly sharp for this date, but this is not a full head although Liberty does show some definition on her head and the shield bosses are complete save two or three which are not outlined. A foremost specimen for the specialist to obtain. Lot:6733
