1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial MS66 PCGS. Though the event was one of national significance, purchases of the Sesquicentennial quarter eagle fell far short of projections, and in the end, the Mint melted most of the mintage as unsold. The quarter eagles would prove to be the last classic gold commemoratives, as no other issues in that metal were struck between 1926 and 1928. Those years were the last chance for such an issue, as the anti-commemorative Hoover presidency and the gold recall ordered by newly installed President Roosevelt followed.
This shining representative, peach-gold with hints of pale emerald and pink, offers excellent eye appeal. The devices are uncommonly well-defined and surprisingly clean, with none of the distracting abrasions or wispy marks that keep so many examples from Gem or better status. A small alloy spot at the base of the T in STATES is a minor concern. Tied for the finest certified by PCGS (10/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
