1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial MS66 NGC. The Sesquicentennial quarter eagle would prove to be the last gold commemorative issue struck by the United States until 1983. The change in administration from Coolidge to Hoover brought a change in the official attitude toward commemoratives, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who approved of commemoratives initially, issued his infamous executive order regarding gold coinage early in his term.
Seasoned commemorative collectors know the difficulty of acquiring a pleasing example of the Sesquicentennial quarter eagle, but this beautiful representative should meet every expectation. The strike is solid, and the gold-orange surfaces offer glittering luster and delicate apricot accents. While the vast majority of examples show grade-limiting marks on Liberty and her torch and scroll, these areas are devoid of mentionable flaws. NGC has graded just three finer examples (7/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
