1926 $10 MS66 PCGS. Ex: Duckor. The 1926 ten dollar, unlike many other eagles, does not appear to have been extensively melted. Rather, many apparently resided in European banks for foreign exchange transactions. Occasional hoards of this date have appeared on the market over the past several decades, providing an ample supply to meet collector demand. This is evident from the certified population figures that show more than 35,000 coins in the various grades of Mint State. It is not until the MS66 plateau is reached that the 1926 becomes a condition rarity. Only 42 pieces have been so graded by PCGS and NGC to date. It is significant that, unlike other, much rarer dates such as the 1908-S, 1913-S, and 1930-S, no examples are known in higher grades.
The Premium Gem 1926 eagle offered here displays a breathtaking melange of apricot, yellow, and greenish-gold patination, and dazzling luster. A sharp strike is noted on the design elements, with no areas revealing hints of weakness. A few small linear marks are seen on the Indian's cheek, with another beneath the last A of AMERICA, and one on the left (right facing) eagle's leg. The latter two may serve as pedigree markers. PCGS Population: 8 in 66, 0 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
