1925-S 5C MS64 PCGS. This lustrous, original near-Gem is overlaid in competing swirls of powder-blue, lilac, and champagne-gold hues. Both sides are exceptionally smooth even for the MS64 level of preservation, and we suspect that PCGS would have assigned this coin a full Gem rating were the devices a little more sharply struck. Nevertheless, the overall definition is appreciably bold for the date, and the eye appeal is strong. There is evidence of extensive die erosion (as struck) along the lower reverse rim. This feature undoubtedly explains the distorted appearance of the S mintmark. The '25-S is one of the premier strike rarities in the Buffalo Nickel series. Choice and Gem quality survivors are seldom offered, and always in demand among specialists. From The BTB Collection of Buffalo Nickels.
