1925-S[50C] California MS68 PCGS.
1925-S<50C> California MS68 PCGS. Californians celebrated the seventy-fifth anniversary of their state's admission to the Union as part of the Compromise of 1850 with local celebrations in San Francisco and Los Angeles in September, 1925. To raise funds for these upcoming gatherings, the San Francisco Citizens' Committee petitioned the federal government for a commemorative coin to be sold to collectors at a premium. Authorized by the Congressional Act of February 25, 1925, the California Diamond Jubilee Half Dollar was designed by Jo Mora with devices that are unmistakably linked to California's history. The gold panning Forty-Niner personifies to the California Gold Rush of the 1840s-1850s and the grizzly bear pays homage to the 1846-1850 California Republic's bear flag.
Although this issue is readily available through the Gem Uncirculated grade level, Superb examples such as this are anything but common. This exquisite piece carries thick, swirling mint frost and is devoid of the striking weakness that often characterizes this issue. Variegated hues of gold, russet, blue, and crimson particularly accentuate the obverse periphery and gently border the brilliant center. The reverse, on the other hand, carries a deeper layer of antique-gold, gray, and red patina. There are no distractions worthy of note on these smooth surfaces as would be expected of the assigned grade. A beautiful opportunity for the commemorative collector since NGC and PCGS combined have certified only 15 pieces in MS68 and none finer (6/04).
Ex: FUN Signature Sale (Heritage, 1/04), lot 2237, which realized $18,400.
From the JFS Collection, the #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
