<B>1925-S $20 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> The heavily melted 1925-S Saint-Gaudens was originally minted in comparatively large numbers, well over 3.7 million pieces, and is one of the few branch mint issues from the decade of the 1920s that circulated to any appreciable degree. Unlike many of the D and S-mint Saint-Gaudens issues that follow, even marginal quality Uncirculated pieces are seen with no greater frequency that than their AU55 and AU58 counterparts. In Uncirculated grades, dozens of marginal quality pieces are available in MS60-63 condition. However, the real drop-off in availability occurs between MS63 and MS64. In MS63, the two major services have certified a total of 87 pieces. In MS64, only 25 coins have been seen (14 at PCGS and 11 at NGC). This general lack of availability of the 1925-S in high grades accounts for the enduring popularity of this issue.<BR> This issue has a couple of striking peculiarities of note. As with several S-mints from the mid-1920s, the 1925-S is usually encountered with "beveled" rims. Also, this issue is usually seen with a weaker impression on the 5 in the date. Both of these features are seen on this coin. As with most examples seen, this piece is well defined overall. The surfaces are lightly abraded with the only noticeable marks clustered between the head of Liberty and the olive branch. The coin has lovely reddish tinged surfaces and the luster is softly frosted.
