1925-S<10C> MS66 Full Bands PCGS. The 1925-S is an interesting Mercury dime: Many numismatic experts consider it to be the single worst-produced issue in the entire series. As Lange's reference points out, "Both obverse and reverse [are] plagued by heavy die polishing and erosion and a generally weak strike throughout. This is especially noticeable around the reverse periphery." However, as on the present example, some pieces can found with full split bands, since that is the area of the coin least affected by the foregoing problems. This piece shows dollops of purplish, gold, and smoke-gray toning on the obverse, with a touch of the same colors on the reverse. While the obverse center and the reverse periphery do show some softness, the horizontal bands are obviously and decidedly split. Census: 11 in 66 Full Bands, 4 finer (7/06).
