1925-S<10C> MS66 Full Bands PCGS. Some Mercury dime experts believe the 1925-S holds the record for the most poorly made date in the entire series. David Lange, for example, in his book The Complete Guide to Mercury Dimes, writes: "Both obverse and reverse [are] plagued by heavy die polishing and erosion and a generally weak strike throughout. This is especially noticeable around the reverse periphery. Some of the letters in UNITED STATES OF AMERICA may be indistinct, particularly at their tops...."
The Premium Gem offered here is, in most cases, a notable exception. The central devices are quite sharp; only a couple of greenery stems to the right of the fasces display evidence of overzealous die lapping. Most of the peripheral lettering is likewise well executed, with only three or four of the letter tops revealing minor softness. Highly lustrous surfaces show dappled olive-green and lavender toning, which is much more prominent on the obverse. A small linear mark beneath the reverse motto is the only flaw (and an inconsequential one at that) on this marvelous coin. Population: 17 in 66 Full Bands, 4 finer (3/06).
