1925-D $2 1/2 MS66 NGC. Denver was the only branch mint to produce Indian Head quarter eagles, and that facility did so in only three years. The first two issues, those of 1911 and 1914, have accompanying Philadelphia issues, but the 1925-D pieces were the only quarter eagles coined for that year. Those pieces, 578,000 coins in all, were also the first representatives of the denomination struck in a decade. Most of the gold struck in the United States at the time was destined for international trade, and the export market preferred larger denominations.
Like all Indian Head quarter eagles of the 1920s, the 1925-D is available through near-Gem and even Gem grades, but anything finer is conditionally elusive. This Premium Gem offers shimmering wheat-gold surfaces and strong detail. The carefully preserved devices and fields lend the piece further visual appeal. NGC has certified just one coin finer, while PCGS has graded none (7/07).

Coin Engraver: Bela Lyon Pratt

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
