1925 50C Vancouver MS68 PCGS. Three issues, the Califo
1925 50C Vancouver MS68 PCGS. Three issues, the California, Vancouver, and Vermont commemoratives, were authorized by one piece of legislation, the Act of February 24, 1925. The authorized Vermont mintage was just 40,000 pieces, while the California and Vancouver distributors could order up to 300,000 pieces. This proved overly optimistic in the case of Vancouver, and just 14,994 halves sold out of 50,028 examples struck. Of those that were sold, many went to non-collectors, and today, problem-free coins are the exception, not the norm.
Yet the Vancouver, like so many issues often found in mediocre condition, has a handful of carefully preserved and wonderful survivors. The surfaces of this practically perfect commemorative shine beneath vibrant orange, violet, and rose patina that drapes most of the obverse and the periphery of the reverse. Soft silver-gray toning appears over the remainder of the piece. The converse of the adage that "time is money" applies; this half dollar promises hours of collecting enjoyment for the fortunate winner. Neither NGC nor PCGS has certified any coins finer, and each has graded just one MS68 example, with the former receiving the Star designation (3/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
