1924-S 5C MS65 PCGS. Despite a higher mintage, the 192
1924-S<5C> MS65 PCGS. Despite a higher mintage, the 1924-S Buffalo nickel is nearly as rare as the 1926-S in all Mint State grades. Of course, the production figures for the '24-S are still low for a U.S. nickel. Only 1.4 million coins were minted, most with a bold to sharp strike. The problem as far as advanced collectors are concerned is that few examples were kept from circulation. This is a sharply defined survivor with above average detail for a Buffalo nickel from the San Francisco Mint. The golden-yellow and olive surfaces are bright and glossy, with an almost semi-prooflike luster. The obverse is mark-free, with very slight carbon spotting, while the reverse is almost carbon-free and only has one noticeable blemish, a small nick on the bison's flank. Definitely a Gem in terms of both eye appeal and technical merit, this offering should prove to be a desirable item which generates plenty of bidder interest. Population: 32 in 65, 1 finer (6/06).
