1924-S 5C MS65 PCGS. Although produced in greater numbers, the 1924-S is nearly as rare as the 1926-S in all Mint State grades. Of course, the original mintage of the '24-S is still limited for 20th century U.S. Nickel. Only 1.4 million pieces were produced, most with appreciably bold definition. The problem as far as advanced collectors are concerned is that few pieces were kept from circulation. This is a sharply impressed survivor with above average detail for a Buffalo Nickel from the San Francisco branch mint. The surface preservation is remarkable--not only is there no wear, but neither side reveals any bothersome abrasions or carbon flecks. Warm orange-gray toning overlays both sides and lightens in a few areas in and around the centers. Population: 32 in 65, with just one finer (10/02).From The BTB Collection of Buffalo Nickels.
