1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1924-S was apparently one of the issues in the Saint-Gaudens series that was simply not set aside in any appreciable numbers by collectors in this country. When large-scale melting of many Saints began in 1937, it appears that the only survivors were held in Swiss and Paris bank vaults. In the Adolphe Menjou Sale in 1950, Abe Kosoff estimated that only five coins were extant. Then the coins slowly began to be released from the vaults in Europe. The '24-S is still a scarce and desirable coin, and it is especially worthwhile in MS64 condition. This particular coin has frosted mint luster that is thicker in texture than usually seen on this issue. The color is a pronounced reddish-gold with a couple of streaks of yellow-gold on the reverse. Sharply struck in all areas. There are no mentionable abrasions on either side of this impressive coin. Population: 88 in 64, 3 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
