1924-S $20 MS64 PCGS. Like the 1924-D in MS64 also in this auction, the present 1924-S also offers superior eye appeal, even though the surfaces are a touch lighter in hue--here, a pretty copper-gold with noticeably lighter accents interspersed. This issue in earlier years was considered among the rarest Saint-Gaudens double eagles, before the repatriation of overseas hoards. Today the issue remains scarce, although lower-Mint State specimens occasionally appear. This piece is definitely in the higher echelons of the surviving population, both in terms of numerical grade and aesthetic appeal. This issue is not generally recognized for its strong mint luster. However, this coin is a pleasing exception as it displays thick mint frost over each side. There are few singular abrasions noted on the obverse, although a couple of undistracting ticks on Liberty's left (facing) calf are noted. The reverse is quite appealing, and both sides are strongly struck. Population: 89 in 64, 3 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
