1924-S<10C> MS64 Full Bands PCGS. A lovely near-Gem, untoned example of this elusive Mercury dime issue. The dies show evidence of long use and fatigue, in the form of some old clashing visible beneath Liberty's chin from the axe blade on the reverse, and some die erosion visible as an orange-peel effect and weakness at the tops of some of the peripheral reverse letters. This die fatigue appears to be the result of economic moves during the administration of Warren G. Harding. Lange's Mercury dime reference theorizes that reverse dies were especially targeted since, unlike dated obverse dies, they could be used beyond their year of manufacture. Certified in a green-label holder. Population: 81 in 64 Full Bands, 16 finer (9/06).
From The Tide Collection.
