Both the 1924-D and 1925-D are coins we see very few of in any grade, and frankly, we see a great many Saint-Gaudens twenties. But in high grade, this is the first Gem 1924-D we have a record of handling at public auction. In fact, we do not have records of anyone selling a Gem '24-D in the last fifteen years. Apparently the hoard of 30 pieces that turned up in 1983 did not contain any coins that would qualify as Gems today. This is a vibrant, lustrous example that shows no obvious or detracting abrasions. The only marks, and they are small ones, that need to be mentioned for the sake of tracking this coin's pedigree are a couple of short ticks between the eagle's head and the U in UNITED, and an angling abrasion across the lower rays of the sun above WE in the motto. Well struck also. Only one other piece has been so graded by PCGS with one finer (4/03). </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed>No Prior Data Recorded </TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
