1924-D $20 MS65 PCGS. Although minted in sufficie
1924-D<$20> MS65 PCGS. Although minted in sufficient numbers (over 3 million pieces), the vast majority of '24-D were melted during the gold recall of the 1930s. The typical survivor is rather heavily abraded and most often grades from AU 55 to MS 62. The few hundred Choice or better specimens known today are the result of repatriation from European bank vaults. This example displays intense luster and greenish-gold patina. The design elements are sharply struck, except for the dome on the Capitol Building. A few very minor marks scattered about are mentioned for the sake of accuracy. Only eleven pieces have been certified Full Gem by PCGS and NGC combined, and a mere one higher (5/05). Moreover, no Full Gems have appeared at auction in the major houses for the past fifteen years. Population: 4 in 65, 1 finer (5/05).
