1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. Despite the enormous mintage for a Saint-Gaudens double eagle exceeding 3 million pieces, most examples were subsequently melted during the gold recall of the 1930s, and most of the survivors today are those fortunate enough to be shipped overseas. Bold luster radiates from the orange-gold surfaces of this delightful example, which shows a bold strike from the typical dies that are worn around the rims, a characteristic of the issue. More importantly, only a few stray nicks and scrapes appear on the surfaces, making this a good choice for a date set, with excellent eye appeal, at a fraction of the price of a Gem coin.

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
