1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. The rich yellow-orange surfaces of this enticing Choice example offer spectacular luster, which is just one element of this piece's incredible visual appeal. The strike is solid, and the coin's overall surface quality is tantalizingly close to the Gem level, with a single flaw at Liberty's waist the only bar to a finer grade.
Despite a sizable mintage in excess of 3 million pieces, the 1924-D was not preserved in quantity, as its P-mint counterpart was; rather, the 1924-D double eagles largely stayed within the United States, and the vast majority were melted after Franklin D. Roosevelt's gold recall. This issue is conditionally rare any finer, with just nine such pieces certified by PCGS (8/07).

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
