1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. Most of the 1924-D double eagle production was apparently melted, though some were also exported overseas. In any event, the issue is quite scarce. David Akers (1988) writes: "Prior to the mid 1950s, the 1924-D was considered to be an extremely rare issue, but the subsequent discovery of several small hoards changed this....However, since the hoards contained only low quality Mint State pieces...this issue remains very rare above MS63 condition...."
The near-Gem in this lot displays radiant luster and gorgeous orange-gold patina that is imbued with traces of light green. The design features are well impressed, as is particularly evident on Liberty's face and hand holding the olive branch. A few minute marks scattered just barely keep this coin from full Gem designation.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
