1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. Ex: Brahin. This is a stunning near-Gem specimen with frosty luster and amazing coloration, blending olive, honey, and pink tones on both sides. Although it is not fully struck, most of the design characteristics are nicely detailed. In Choice Mint State grades, this date is not a major rarity, but it is almost never encountered any finer. PCGS has only certified seven better pieces, for example (12/06). The vast majority of the 3 million coins struck were melted within a decade or so, although some untold but small quantity was certainly sent over to Europe. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth suggest that "a few thousand" were exported in the 1920s.
From The Matt & Susan Brown Family Collection of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
