1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. A second example of this essentially unimprovable issue, with beautiful, reddish tinted mint luster radiating from the orange-gold surfaces. While PCGS has certified several dozen pieces in this near-Gem grade, that service has graded only eight Gem pieces, with an additional 11 MS65s at NGC (3/07), including, as always, the inevitable duplications. Despite the recorded mintage of just over 3 million pieces, the vast majority of this midseries issue was undoubtedly first stored, then later melted during the 1930s gold recall. Most Mint State survivors are likely repatriated coins from overseas. This piece shows a few light, grade-consistent contact marks on the obverse highpoints that keep it from a Gem grade, but it is an appealing piece with good color and strike, and superb luster.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
