1924-D $20 MS64 NGC. For the Saint-Gaudens specialist, this is an important issue that is almost impossible to locate any finer. For example, NGC has only graded 11 Gem quality 1924-D double eagles, while PCGS has seen only nine. Although the surfaces have trivial abrasions that prevent a Gem assessment, both sides of this lovely piece are fully brilliant with frosty luster and traces of desirable pink toning over honey-gold color. Although not fully struck, most of the design elements are sharply detailed, save for some peripheral weakness, that according to Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (2006), is associated with "... worn dies ... as quality control was lacking (perhaps caused by the enormous amount of coins that were minted)."

Coin Engraver: Augustus Saint-Gaudens

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
