1924-D 1C MS65 Red PCGS. The comparatively small 2,520,000-piece mintage helps to solidly the semi-key status of the 1924-D in the Lincoln cent series. Strike and color problems are often encountered on examples of this issue. David Lange, in his 2005 edition of The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents comments: "1924-D Lincolns almost always show signs of being struck from dies with varying degrees of wear. ... A number of 1924-D cents will show particular weakness at the right side of both obverse and reverse, probably the result of dies which were not quite parallel. Another characteristic feature is weakness in letter O of ONE. In addition to striking deficiencies, coloration is another problem for this date... ."
A better-than-average strike is apparent on the Red Gem offered in this lot. Lincoln's portrait is relatively sharp, as are the obverse letters and digits. On the reverse, full delineation occurs on the wheat stalks, including all of the lines in the usually-weak right-most stalk. Only the top of the O in ONE reveals minor softness. Bright orange-gold luster is visible on the obverse, while orange-gold and crimson compete for territory on the reverse. Close inspection reveals just a few light ticks that preclude an even finer grade. Population: 35 in 65 Red, 1 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
