1923-S 50C Monroe MS65 PCGS. Like the Columbian before it, the Monroe half's original mintage was far larger than what the market would bear. Many examples found their way into circulation, a trend that accelerated as the Great Depression worsened, and non-collectors often mishandled their pieces. These factors, combined with a low-relief design that has numerous broad, flat planes, ensure that Gems are elusive and anything finer is conditionally scarce in an absolute sense. This well struck and slightly frosty Gem has russet toning at the rims and silver-gray in the centers. Hardly any marks affect the portraits, though three reeding marks are noted in the field to the right.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
