<B>1923-S 50C Monroe MS65 NGC.</B></I> On this fascinating design, the difficult poses of the personified continents are reminiscent of a Harriet Whitney Frismuth sculpture. Unlike those beautifully rendered pieces, however, the Monroe design is in shallow relief, one of several factors that caused nearly wholesale rejection by contemporary collectors and the public. Aside from a touch of ice-blue in the obverse fields, this outstanding example is essentially silver-white.
