1923 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball. A bold black fountain pen notation on this OAL (Johnson) ball announces for the first of twenty-six times in franchise history, "World's Champions." This monumentally important sphere should impress even the Yankee haters for its assemblage of signatures that documents the establishment of the Bronx as the capital of the baseball world. Most notable, of course, is Babe Ruth, who shares his appropriate sweet spot position with Kenesaw Mountain Landis, whose appearance on this ball suggests World Series vintage. Hall of Fame executive Ed Barrow is just to the right, with Jacob Ruppert as well. Each of these important autographs rates 4/10 or better. Among the other autographs still apparent after eight decades are Hoyt, Pennock, Bush, Pipp, Scott and Witt, with the balance teetering on the edge of, or falling beyond, the bounds of illegibility. Deep toning only adds to the vintage appeal. Certainly not a pristine example, but a ball that more than makes up for its condition flaws with top-tier historical relevance. LOA from PSA/DNA.
