<B>1923 Dempsey vs. Gibbons Ticket Stub, Signed by Dempsey.</B></I> The huge wooden bowl built in Shelby, Montana to host this Heavyweight Championship fight was intended to hold 50,000 spectators, but false last minute reports that the match had been cancelled kept the trains away, leaving the paid ticket count at just over 7,000. This relic from the event that bankrupted the small mountain town ranks as one of those 7,000 tickets purchased to attend what many have described as Dempsey's toughest successful title defense. The victor applied his autograph to the verso some years later, a signature that still projects as a bold 9/10.
