1923 (12 October) W T Cosgrave printed letter regarding the employment of demobilised National Army soldiers
letterpress
34 by 22cm., 13.5 by 8.5in.

Single page printed circular letter to employers appealing to them to reinstate demobilised soldiers who left their employment to join the National Army during the Civil War. Also with accompanying printed letter from Patrick Hogan Minister for Agriculture and unused employment undertaking form, an early Irish Army recruitment pamphlet and unused headed paper of the army benevolent fund employment committee. An interesting collection relating to the employment of ex-soldiers in post Civil War Ireland. Those who fought on the Anti-Treaty side did not get the same support until De Valera and Fianna Fáil gained power in 1932. This was the start of “jobbery” which was to be a feature of Irish politics ever since. (5 items)
