1922-S$1> MS66 NGC. As with most S-mint Peace dollars, the most important determinant of grade and price for a 1922-S is the relative strength of strike. This piece cannot compare to a P or D-mint, but for a 1922-S the strike on this coin is about as strong as one is likely to locate. This is especially true of the lower row of feathers on the eagle's wing. The feathers are not fully brought up, but they are all present. The center of the obverse shows only a slight softness of detail on Liberty's hair. The surfaces are bright and frosted, as usual for S-mint coinage. Both sides are generally brilliant with a thin ring of golden around the margins. A faint ring of haziness is seen in the lower left obverse field, a possible future pedigree identifier. Seldom seen in Gem or better grades, only seven other pieces have been so graded by NGC and six at PCGS, with none finer at either service.
From The Robert Moreno Registry Collection of Peace Dollars.
