1922 No D 1C Strong Reverse MS64 Red and Brown PC
1922 No D<1C> Strong Reverse MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. Die Pair Two. Coins of this die pair were produced when the dies became severely clashed during production. Excessive polishing removed the clashmarks, but it also removed the D mintmark. This is the most common die marriage of this popular error Cent, and it commands the most significant premiums in all grades. Most examples of this error on today's market are circulated to one degree or another. Since few were preserved at the time of issue, and all were poorly produced, the survival of Mint State coins was a matter of luck. There are only 19 Red and Brown Mint State survivors known to NGC and PCGS combined (3/05).
This coin displays intense crimson-pink color that is accented with ample lime-gold over the obverse. The strike is typically sharper on the reverse, but all features on Lincoln's portrait are suitably well defined. Both sides are devoid of mentionable abrasions and spotting. A coin that is earmarked for inclusion in the finest collection of Lincoln Cents.
From The Tom Mershon #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Lincoln Wheat Cents.
