The diagnostics for Die Pair 3 are: the second 2 in the date is weaker than the first 2, TRUST is weak but sharper than IN GOD WE, the lower left portion of the O in ONE is beginning to spread out into the field as the die deteriorates. At times, Die Pair 3 coins will show a weak D, and that is how this coin is labeled on the insert. However, strong magnification and an equally strong imagination is required to "see" the remnants of a D mintmark on this particular coin--which brings up the subject of value. Die Pair 3 coins are worth substantially less than Die Pair 2 coins, the die pair that is considered the true No D. However, one has to wonder how valid this is. If one cannot see, or just barely see, the D on a Die Pair 3 coin, how much less should it be worth than a Die Pair 2 coin? We pose the question, and believe it is a valid one, but, of course, leave the judgment of value to the marketplace and bidders.<BR>The surfaces are glossy brown and blue overall. There are no obvious or distracting abrasions on either side of this lustrous and well preserved example. A very rare opportunity to acquire this popular error in Gem condition, and at a substantial savings over a Die Pair 2 example. </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><A name=PricesRealized></A><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%"><TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%" bgColor=#79735c><A name=PR><FONT face=arial color=#ffffff size=3><B>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</B> </FONT></A></TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#f6f6ed>No Prior Data Recorded </TD></TR><TR><TD bgColor=#ffffff><FONT face=arial size=1 ?>PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
