1922 Assay Commission Medal. MS63 Uncertified. Julian AC-66, R.4. Bronze, 50.9 mm., 910.5 grains. Satiny yellow surfaces with faint iridescence. Both sides are sharply detailed. This example has light hairlines and evidence of lacquer. Regarding Treasury Secretary Mellon, R.W. Julian commented: "Mellon received a measure of numismatic unpopularity when he refused to accept the Washington quarter dollar design by Laura Gardin Fraser in 1932, despite the Commission of Fine Arts choosing it over all other entries. He chose instead the inferior Flanagan work, still in use."
