1922 50C Grant MS67 PCGS. Like so many of the earlier (pre 1925) commemorative issues, the Grant Half Dollar has a fairly substantial mintage when compared to those cranked out in the 1930s. A good portion, indeed the majority of the original production, however, was sold to the general public, not to serious collectors who would keep the acquired coin in an envelope or place it in one of the newly introduced coin albums of the day. The result of this widespread distribution was that many Grant Halves were carried as pocket pieces, spent during hard times that followed, or shined up to look pretty. Today, even an MS65 Grant is not as easy to locate as one might suspect. This coin, of course, could not have been more carefully preserved. Its surfaces are absolutely pristine beneath a wondrous array of speckled gray-lilac, coppery-orange, rose, and olive-green toning. For total originality and breathtakingly Superb surfaces, the serious silver commemorative collector could hardly go wrong here. Population: 27 in 67, 0 finer (10/02).From the St. Louis Collection.
