1921-S<5C> MS64 PCGS. David Lange, in his The Complete Guide to Buffalo Nickels, writes that the 1921-S is a difficult coin to find in "desirable condition," due to poorly prepared planchet stock, extended die use, and poor strikes. The present example is perhaps a cut above the typical specimen, in that it lacks extensive toning streaks, laminations, extensive metal flow lines, and numerous die cracks. Its nickel-gray surfaces display nice luster and adequately struck design elements, though some weakness is noted in the hair on the bison's head. No significant contact marks are apparent, but numerous tiny pepper-like spots dot both sides.
