1921-S 50C MS64 PCGS.
1921-S 50C MS64 PCGS.<p>Formerly sold as lot 6836 in our 2002 June Long Beach Sale, where it was described as, "The 1921-S was produced in greater numbers than both the 1921-P and the 1921-D, but it is the most difficult of the three dates to locate in Mint State. In fact, the '21-S, with an original mintage of just 548,000 pieces, is the undisputed key to the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series. The present lot offers a well struck and satiny near-Gem whose otherwise untoned surfaces exhibit mottled streaks of tan-russet iridescence toward the left borders. The strike is appreciably above average for the type, and we can find no singularly mentionable surface blemishes. Half Dollar production plummeted at all three operational mints in 1921 due to the slackening of the United States' postwar economy. This same decrease in economic activity prevented those few people who would have been interested in saving pristine 1921-dated Half Dollars from doing so, and the '21-S seems to have suffered the most from this unfortunate set of circumstances." The coin realized $25,300 in that sale. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
