1921-S 50C MS64 PCGS. Although not the lowest mint
1921-S 50C MS64 PCGS. Although not the lowest mintage issue in this series (that honor belongs to the 1921-D), the 1921-S is widely known as the "King of the Walkers." The San Francisco Mint delivered just 548,000 Half Dollars in 1921, virtually all of which were placed directly into circulation. As a result, this date is easily obtainable in low circulated grades like Good, Very Good, and Fine. At the AU level of preservation, the '21-S is rare, and Mint State coins are even more so. This issue is not known for sharply struck features, a fact that only increases its conditionally challenging status. The present near-Gem exhibits average striking definition for the type with a partial overlay of medium golden iridescence on the right half of both the obverse and reverse. There are really very few distracting abrasions; in fact, only a couple of small abrasions on Liberty's skirt are all that keep this coin out of an MS65 holder. The luster appears to be a trifle subdued, but the overall eye appeal is impressive for the issue. A definite highlight of the present collection.
From The William & Harrison Hiatt Registry Collection, Part Two. Lot:7990
