1921 S$1 Zerbe PR65 NGC. An undetermined number of so-called Zerbe proof Dollars were struck in 1921
1921 S$1 Zerbe PR65 NGC. An undetermined number of so-called Zerbe proof Dollars were struck in 1921 as a favor to influential numismatist Farran Zerbe. Estimates of the number that survive range between a few dozen pieces to as many as 200. All genuine Zerbe proofs show the diagnostic faint die scratch from the second U in UNUM to the border. The fields on this piece are nicely mirrored, but of course, are not comparable to the better produced (and much rarer) Chapman proofs of this year. Fully struck in all areas, including the reverse wreath, the brilliant surfaces show a light overlay of mint frost which gives the coin an attractive, nearly cameoed appearance. Population: 6 in 65, 7 finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
