1921$1> Satin PR63 ANACS. VAM-1H. Wispy die polish lines throughout the surfaces identify the VAM variety, associated with Satin finish proofs. The strike is uncommonly sharp for a 1921 Peace dollar, on the hair above the ear and (especially) on the border between the eagle's upper leg and wing. The dies are slightly rotated clockwise. This beautiful example has light golden-brown toning and smooth, gently shimmering surfaces. The absence of contact marks of any significance provides further evidence of its status as a specimen strike. Although the precise mintage of satin proofs is unknown, their rarity is undeniable. For example, NGC has certified only 17 Satin proof 1921 Peace dollars, fewer than one example for every year of the firm's operation.
