1921$1> MS67 NGC. In addition to being the first year of issue for the new Peace dollar design, the 1921 is also the only year this design was struck in high relief, save for a handful of 1922 matte proof examples. For some reason unknown to us, the High Relief double eagle has always received accolades from collectors, even in the year of issue, but the High Relief Peace dollar is greeted with little more than a yawn by most numismatists. Just over a million pieces were produced in December 1921, and as one would expect, high grade, well struck examples are now very elusive. This piece shows strong striking details for the issue with rich, frosted mint luster liberally coating the surfaces. Each side presents a fully brilliant, snow-white appearance as if this coin had been recently struck. As expected of the assigned Superb grade, there are no mentionable marks or other distractions. A conditionally rare example worthy of a close look and a spirited bid. Census: 6 in 67, none are finer (3/06).
From The Robert Moreno Registry Collection of Peace Dollars.
