1921 S$1 MS67 PCGS. The 1921 Morgan does not carry a good reputation. David Bowers (1993) writes: "Nearly all pieces are very poorly struck. This added to the shallow relief of the dies, is responsible for the unsatisfactory appearance of nearly all specimens in existence today. Even coins certified as MS65 are apt to be ugly in this regard." PCGS, with their assigned grade of MS67, recognized that the present example certainly does not fit the 1921 profile. The design elements are well brought up, with sharp detail visible in the hair over Liberty's ear, and at least better-than-average definition on the eagle's breast. The near-white surfaces display a pleasing frost-like finish and excellent luster, and exhibit just a whisper of light tan color around portions of the borders. A couple of minor luster grazes do not detract from the coin's fantastic overall eye appeal.
