1921-D 50C MS64 PCGS. The 1921-D half dollar has the lowest mintage of the Walking Liberty series (208,000 pieces), and as might be expected, is scarce in all grades. Paul Green, in an August 21, 2001 Numismatic News article, explains this low mintage: "In 1921 all denominations experienced lower-than-average mintages because the Mint was working day and night to create silver dollars. The half dollar of 1921 probably suffered as much in terms of production as any denomination. You could make a strong case that 1921 half-dollar production from all three facilities was really a token amount."
Both sides of the near-Gem in this lot are awash in intense luster, and display barely discernible tan-gray color under magnification. The strike is typical for the issue, revealing weak definition in the centers, and fairly strong delineation in Liberty's lower gown lines. A few minute obverse marks define the grade. Population: 77 in 64, 33 finer (6/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
