1921-D 50C MS63 PCGS. The 1921-D, with a production of 208,000 pieces, has the lowest mintage of the Walking Liberty half dollar series, and is an important key date. Bruce Fox, in his The Complete Guide to Walking Liberty Half Dollars, writes that "1921 was a recession year and there was a large reduction in business activity due to the end of the war. There was little need for small denomination coinage and the mints concentrated on silver dollars. Few halves were saved in mint state." The population figures seem to bear out this last point, as only 300 or so 1921-D Uncirculated coins have been certified by PCGS and NGC.
Faint whispers of gold-tan color visit the reverse of the MS63 specimen in this lot, while the obverse is essentially untoned. Vibrant luster enlivens both sides, and the design elements are typically struck, with partial definition visible in the thumb on Liberty's left (right facing) hand. A few minuscule handling marks on each side define the grade. A pleasing coin for the grade designation.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
